Upon receipt of proper application and current certificate of rabies vaccination, the treasurer shall issue a license tag and a license receipt to the applicant on which he shall record: (i) the owner's name and address; (ii) the date of payment; (iii) the year for which issued; (iv) the tag's serial number; and (v) whether the license is for a male, female or unsexed dog or kennel.
Dog license receipts shall be preserved by the licensees and exhibited promptly on request by any animal warden or other officer. Any person may obtain a dog license or cat license if required by an ordinance adopted pursuant to subsection B of 3.2-6524, by making oral or written application to the treasurer of the locality where such person resides, accompanied by the amount of license tax and current certificate of vaccination as required by this article or satisfactory evidence that such certificate has been obtained.
