The story is based on the lives of Jorge Bacardi and Christopher Gregory, inspired by a book written by Chris' father, Eric, titled All My Tomorrows: A Story . Predeceased by his brothers Joaquin and Alberto, Jorge was survived by his sister Carmen and his wife Leslie Bacardi. In the movie, Jorge is referred to as the heir to a rum dynasty, which is accurate as it's based on the real-life story of Jorge Bacardi, a member of the Bacardi family who have distributed rum and other spirits for more than 150 years. He was a champion of childrens rights and will always be remembered as a man of action and vision. The result from this meeting was an idea to open a facility where patients and families could live together while someone was waiting for an operation at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, the same hospital where his surgery was performed. Jorge was released from the hospital days later and immediately began thinking of ways to honor the gift he was given.
